Fergus & Geronimo Release New LP!

Fergus & Geronimo are two fellas from Denton who moved to Brooklyn, whatever. You don’t need to know the migratory habits of the people behind the instruments to feel down right righteous when you plug in your stereo and jam their new long player, Funky was the State of Affairs. A record which may at first baffle, but soon reward those who believe in the transcendental power of paranoia. Paranoia isn’t the only thing going on here; This record is awash with themes both silly (intergalactic love affairs) and serious (cloned drones). As for its sound, just think of the most far out Devo record that could ever possibly be imagined and then add some sax.

Headed Home

After living in the former Soviet territory of Ukraine for over two years I’m headed home. To commemorate this earth shaking occasion I made a mix on that very theme and named it ‘Headed Home.’ I don’t yet know what else I will listen to on my 4 flights that will span a full day, but at least I have 17 full minutes planned and accounted for. In the traditional Friday Feel style, it consists of 5 songs all recorded as one long track. And the winners are;

1. M. Ward – To Go Home (Daniel Johnston Cover)
2. Smith Casey & Roger Gill – When I Git Home
3. Brian Eno & David Byrne – Home
4. Wooden Wand – Dogpaddlin’ Home in Line with My Lord
5. Simon & Garfunkel – Keep the Customer Satisfied

Literary Dance

This is a song that I made some time ago by sampling a couple of 80s songs and a couple of William Carlos Williams’ poems; two fields of interest for me which are not syncretized enough.

Happy Holidays!

I decided I’d add one more song to the overflowing pot of Christmas song renditions, and so here’s my take on my all-time favorite Christmas ballad using two main samples; the first part made from Tom Waits’ Widow’s Grove and the second one comes from Nat Baldwin’s Black Square. Enjoy and Happy Holidays!

Happy Early Halloween!

As far as I’m concerned, it’s never too early to get into the spooky spirit. Halloween shouldn’t be confined to 24 measly hours, it should have its own season, as retailers no doubt grasp since Halloween aisles usually appear a week or two after school begins. Today I have for you two tracks, one I made by sampling several songs from the forgettable 2007 horror film ’30 Days of Night,’ and the other is an original from the same film. One unforgettable thing about the film is its musical score created by a certain Brian Reitzell, who isn’t so under the radar as I first thought having participated in scores for such films as ‘The Virgin Suicides,’ ‘Lost in Translation,’ and ‘Thumbsucker’ to name a few. The ’30 Days of Night’ soundtrack is quite impressive utilizing live drums and electronics to create a haunting, foreboding atmosphere. I like to think if a vampire were after me, I wouldn’t hear orchestra hits, it’d be something more like this:
