Twin Tones 05

Edition 5 of Twin Tones pairs the hazy sounds of Washed Out with 80’s one-hit wonders Kajagoogoo. After I heard “Olivia” on the new Washed Out tape, I spent about an hour of Googling variations of “shy shy 80’s song.” I finally found the video for “Too Shy” (which is sooo legit) and slapped the two tracks together. Here you go:

Twin Tones 02

The second in my series of Twin Tones mixes, this track combines Finish weirdness and British self-reflection. Here, you’ll find the B side of Kuupuu’s precious, haunting Tinakenkälurtta tape flowing effortlessly into Hackney Carriages’ moving “Suddenly Teeth.” I hope you like it!

Twin Tones 01

I have this habit of making little playlists of songs that I think sound really similar, so I decided to start sharing them. I’m calling this Twin Tones because even though the songs might not have much in common, they share a certain tone. I got the idea of mixing them together from XXXchange’s awesome mix of Frankie Knuckles and Animal Collective, “Your Love, My Girls.” The first in the series is the title track from Steven Halpern’s New Age masterpiece Starborn Suite combined with the impossibly great “Throw Some D’s” from Rich Boy’s debut album. I hope you enjoy it!
