I have returned from my amazing wedlock journey with my beautiful bride and we’re almost finished setting up camp in AUSTIN! Very exciting allll around. To celebrate my lady, I’ve created a mix full ladies (single ladies) for all you other doods out there.
Some months ago I found myself mindlessly gyrating on the deck of the Creekside Lounge, located on 6th St. in Austin. At the time I did not know anything about the DJ who was manning the turntables and pumping lose-your-mind notes through the night air. The more I learn about Orion, (such as the time he won Best of Austin’s Best DJ to Rally the Rumpshakers, or toured with hip-hop group Yo Majesty, or the time he was really nice to me) the more I realize he is just a nice fella.
As you may have noted already, the extravagant and original artwork of Sir Woods Newlywed Bryant is missing, which means that this is another fill-in Friday Feel. Try not to fret. This mix of songs attempts to demonstrate, through varying musical tones and words, recent thoughts I’ve had that pertain to my life.
Yo: I’m excited as ever to present the first profile of a DJ in Porch of the Mystics history. It just so happens to be a friend, Joey Liechty aka Yeahdef. You can find him most likely wearing a tan Carhartt jacket in these wintry months, roaming the streets of Denton looking for a fix. Which in his case would be a dancefloor. On that subject, he’s got a message for all of you who may have fallen victim to his prowl, “To the owners of houses that I wrecked in the past – sorry for the mess – I miss you guys there will be more house parties I promise.” From what I can tell, he keeps it real and loose. Download his remix linked up below and it will single songedly pull you through the winter and into warmth.
Since Willie is galavanting somewhere on the ocean, I decided to take over this week’s Friday Feel. Because this is the first one of the new year, I wanted to use that as the vague theme. So, for my mix, I only used first tracks from albums and tried to capture the feeling of a brand new year. I hope you like it!
01) Can – “Future Days” Future Days
02) J.D. Emmanuel – “Attaining Peace” Wizards
03) Gui Boratto – “Scene 1″ Chromophobia
04) Jasper TX – “Better Days to Come” A Darkness
05) Jana Hunter – “All the Best Wishes” Blank Unstaring Heirs of Doom
I’m always really hyperbolic when I talk about bands, but Adam Forkner is honestly one of my favorite people making music today. The warm tones of his albums are somehow both engaging and soothing and getting to experience his improvised, one-man live show was one of the most amazing musical experiences of my life. But, even more importantly, Adam is one of the nicest, most positive people I’ve ever met. Here is a short glimpse into the mind of the man behind White Rainbow.
Willie aka The Hooded Deer aka Breakfast with Eli is getting married tonight! We’re all real excited.
Sadly, he didn’t get to post his Friday Feel this week because he was probably arguing over what color the cookies should be or something. But, I’ll step in next Friday with some auxiliary jams and he’ll be back the next week with all of the married-person music you can stand.
Thanks for reading our blog and be sure to send good vibes his way!
